Understanding Show and Tell

Dear Parents,
I have divided the class in two groups for the show and Tell schedule. Please, mark in your calendar and encourage your child to bring any item that starts with the letter of the week. Avoid sending expensive/breakable items.

Here are some guidelines I use, to make Show and Tell a meaningful learning experience in the classroom. Feel free to practice at home.
  • Ask for descriptive words and proper vocabulary.
  • Model how to ask inquiry based questions.
  • Ask about "the why." ("Why do you think that is?")
  • Allow students to discuss and make connections.
  • Model how to introduce yourself.
  • Model how to be a good audience.
  • Always thank the student for sharing.

    • Here are the possible learning goals:
  • learn to speak and listen
  • learn how to be an audience and introduce themselves
  • learn how to ask inquiry based questions
  • learn to make connections between student responses
  • anticipate and observe
  • practice critical reasoning skills
  • practice storytelling
  • learn same and different
  • use vocabulary
  • use descriptive language
  • increase confidence
