Fantastic Wednesday!

Great day to have outdoor recess!
We began our day with morning circle time led by Lexi and health snacks.
In our journal writing we started by talking about the difference between Summer and Fall.
Students were encouraged to copy (and complete) the following sentence: "Fall is _________."
At SJA we try to teach good writing habits since JK. Whenever students are copying a sentence from the board, I always remind them of using upper case at the beginning of a sentence, use of finger space between the words and end the sentence with an end mark. It might seem advanced, but I know of my previous students who are now in Gr. 1 and they still remember the basic writing tools taught in JK. :)
Next students drew a picture of themselves in their journals using fall color crayons.
Today we also practiced formation of upper case and lower case e.

In Math we made a graph as a class about our favourite food. Students cut out 6 types of food: past, grapes, salad, pizza, apple and hot dog. Each student had a turn on choosing their first and second favourite food.

The result is here:

Concrete graphs (with real objects/pictures) help children to visualize which group has more or less. Students participated really well in this activity!
In the afternoon we had story time and reading buddies:

Next we had a short (but fun) time for centers. Today students had real and pretend phones, cameras and microphones. If you have old cell phones or cameras, feel free to donate to our class! They also had trio blocks and Lego during center time.
To finish off the day we had outdoor story time and Gym class.

Today students also had French class with Mme. Stella.
Have a great evening!
