Nice day to have outdoor recess!
Today we began the day with morning circle time led by Bryce and healthy snacks.
In Language Arts we completed a couple of activities: we met our new animal friend "Timmy Tiger", students learned that tigers don't like to get their face wet! Students then traced and wrote the following letters: o, a and t. As part of our Language Arts program we also completed a page of the journal. Today students had to complete the sentence: "I like____________."
I really liked to see the risk takers in our class trying really hard to sound the letters and forming words.
Again we encourage students to start the sentence with upper case, use finger space (today we used popsicle stick) and to show they finish the sentence they are instructed to put the end mark.
Students also had time to read blends to each other on the carpet.
In Math/UOI we learned about the Pumpkin Lifecycle. To help students better understand
I read a book about pumpkins and watched this video: http://youtu.be/tU-GwFHQZI8
Next, students colored, cut and paste pictures of the pumpkin lifecycle. They were asked to put in the correct sequence. As we were doing this activity I tried to use vocabulary of sequencing, which includes words such as first, then, next, finally, or first, second, third, last. Teaching children sequence also develops their scientific inquiry skills. We will have our SJA Annual Science Fair in November and I'm looking forward to work with my little inquirers!
Students participated in centers, French and Gym classes.
Have a great evening everyone!
*HOMEWORK WILL BE SENT TOMORROW.
