We began the day with morning circle time led by Lexi and healthy snacks.
In Language we sang our phonics song and reviewed name, sound and formation of L.
Then students practiced writing the letter L, the blend la and the word lap.
In Math we used snap cubes to practice counting and writing numbers 1-10. Students always learn best using manipulatives.
In our UOI we talked about how children play with less resources in other parts of the world. As an IB school we want students to be open minded, sensitive and aware of what goes on outside of our school walls.
After watching a short video of children playing in Africa, students shared what they observed in the video:
- "They were playing with a plastic bag!"
- "They were playing with a jumping rope!"
- "They didn't have shoes!"
- "They were dancing!"
- "They were playing with a chicken!"
- "They were happy!"
- "They were playing with empty pop cans!"
- "They had uniforms to go to school and had Gym class!"
- "Some children were climbing trees!"
Students then used bottle caps to show how they can have fun and use their imagination with something simple as bottle caps. Thank you all for bringing the bottle caps, we will continue to use it as math counters/manipulatives.
Today students attended Drama, French and Gym classes. They also had centers in the afternoon and reading groups.
Have a great evening!
