Today we worked hard!
To start off the morning we had circle time led by Maya and healthy snacks.
In Language Arts we reviewed the vowels (name, sound and formation of each one) and we sang our phonics song. Today we also met our new animal friend Oscar Otter. Next we practiced writing the vowels and also listening to cvc words (consonant/vowel/consonant). I would say a word and students would tell me which vowel they hear in the word.
As part of our Language Arts we also wrote in the journals. This week our UOI will be all about Thanksgiving/Pumpkins. In the journals students wrote: "Pumpkins are ________." Again, students are reminded of using upper case when starting a sentence, finger space between words and end mark.
Next, we started today reading groups. Reading groups will happen on Journal writing days. Students receive a simple book mostly with blends/short words and they will take turns reading to each other under my supervision, so I can make sure they are sounding out the letters correctly.
In Math students used math sorting sets to work in groups and show their knowledge and problem solving skills by showing different sorting rules.
In our UOI we talked about Thanksgiving. Students made a Tree of Thankfulness with all things they are thankful for.
We finished the day off with story time and Gym class. Today students also had French class.
